I really love this trip.
I may not be as high as the other trips i had, but this tri
p is certainly the best.
It's not just the enjoyment, its the experience.

1st for Youth, 4th for Folklore, 3rd for Open Mixed.
Given our targets and standard, we have failed. Indeed there are a few external factors which may have contributed to this results, but we got to claim this loss. Ultimately, its us who screwed up on stage, it's us who got this results and i can only say that i'm so proud of this choir.

VJChoir - You are the STAR who have ACCEPTED DEFEAT, who have shown the VICTORIAN SPIRIT. You showed all the other choirs that an ELITE choir is NOT just one who can SING WELL. We are more than that. We are a FAMILY with the EXPERIENCE NO ONE CAN GET ELSEWHERE.
WIN or LOSE, the song ' no man is an island ' stays.
Whether its a TRIUMPH or DEFEAT, we're still a choir.

admit it, its boring to be in a choir which always wins.
Ultimately a strong choir is not one who just triumphs. A strong choir is one who triumphs after defeats. It's really up to you future generations to determine the true strength of the choir.

Special thanks to Mr Kwei for your guidance the past 6 years. Be it TkChoir, Vocal Consort or VjChoir, without you i wouldn't even be in any of these.

It's really fun being together with you all. you know who you are.
God loves you and I love you all too.

Let's just work hard so that we can go to Wales together again. kakakaka

Starting Points

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

if i just sit down and think about my studies and how much i have to catch up, i can really break down and cry.
i can't believe this, i can actually cry about studies.

sorry, i think im giving CT2 up.
sorry to my dad especially. sigh.

my family/relatives (mom's side)

Do you know?
A simple cell has a machinery that is far more complicated then the most advanced factories or machineries in the world today, proving that chemical evolution is not possible. Scientists term the sophisticated machinery in a simple cell as intelligent design. Of course, for an intelligent design to be designed, there must be an intelligent designer (:

closet mugger? smug that away.

Sunday, June 1, 2008

oh men. it has been a screeewed week.
what a wrong time to get addicted to dota. been playing it for the past few days.
so, you know, i've been feeling guilty about it and i hate it when i feel that my life's screwed up ( especially when i haven been committing much to God )
so woots, i just uninstalled it. BYE BYE WARCRAFT.

im still contemplating whether i should uninstall all the other games. maybe later i will. haha.

i really hope i can catch up with my study schedule in 2 weeks. with 3 weeks left including 1 week of tokyoing, HAHA. what else can i say.

I WILL TRY TO STUDY.

maybe i should keep looking at this post from time to time as a motivation.
the only vj culture that i don't wanna cultivate is the habit of being a closet mugger/smiling tiger.
i rather be true to myself and my friends. haha. got study means got study. don't have means don't have.

most of my friends are all having tuition. when i reflect upon myself, i feel that i should really go for some tuition. zzz, but i really hate tuition. nightmares of primary school days.
tuition makes me feel as though my life's under control and some kind of routine. the daily routine of school is already killing me. haha.
can i really trust myself that i can do my own independent learning?
tuition, or not? sigh.

frankly speaking,why are we studying?
i'm not studying for my own sake. i realised that i need to get good grades to please my parents.i've been studying for my parents.
yea, its really uber cool to have an honourable job and salary, but what's the use if you're not going to be happy or you're just going to be one arrogant peep.
i rather spend my life in Africa playing with the kids and do community service. i mean, seriously. i need a tan anyway.

for now, i'll just study, not excessively, but just do what a normal student should do, and rest my studies in God. life's so much more fulfilling this way.

lol. what a random post.
really, don't be a closet mugger. that's why i love my s47 clique.

Jesus we're living for Your name
We'll never be ashamed of You

Its Tenor Time

Thursday, May 29, 2008

This post is for Vjchoir tenors.
To all vjchoir tenors, i believe all year 1 tenors are having their voice lessons so i thought of an idea to post something of use in terms of improving your voice.
This kind of post comes once in a while and i'll inform you if i have any updates. Whatever that i'll be posting is taken from this book called ' The Tenor Voice' by Anthony Russell. I'll try to pass this book around the section as soon as possible so that all of you can print and bind it.
Meanwhile, just bear with it and view it through here first.

Just like how the book starts it, you need to have a mental image and mindset of how you will sound like, and of course, you need to have a proper image of it.

Firstly, whenever you hear a good soloist of your time, and you find it somehow below par, you have to bear in mind that
CRITICSIM SHOULD BE DIRECTED AT THE WAY THEY USE THEIR VOICE AND NOT AT THE VOICE ITSELF.
sorry, when i caps it means its impt, not that im flaring up.

Next, vowels.
The formation of PURE VOWEL takes precedent over all other matters, because they are the basic vocal functions. If you are or starting to have bad vowels, it means that you have some bad habits of singing.
Remember, vowels play a vital role in language and hence the communication to the audience/judges. If you want them to know what you are singing, you have to give pure vowels.
A SINGER MUST BE DETERMINED NOT TO SACRIFICE THE PURITY OF THE VOWEL TO ATTAIN THE PITCH,OR TONAL EFFECT.

Control.
Control can never be over emphasized because no matter what, control cannot be compromised if you want a good quality and/or a good range.
MASTER OVER THE DYNAMICS, RANGE, FLEXIBILITY, AND SHADING, WHICH PERMITS ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION, ARE ALL THE RESULTS OF CONTROL.

Musicianship.
I don't think i need to emphasize alot on this. One way of improving your musicality is to think or imitate a musical instrument that is best suited for the song or passage. If you possess a bad technique, it could well impede the flow of musicality, so be beware of that.

alright, looking at the rest of the book i think its hard for me to explain through blogging.
I need you all to understand and do get this in your head - falsetto is extremely important for tenors.
Start training your falsetto, and use descending falsetto scales. For now, train your falsetto range up to a high C (two octaves above middle C).
It's going to be hard and discouraging as our falsetto will be very weak and airy, but after much practice and effective control of the diaphragm,
YOU WILL BE A HAPPY MAN.

Remember, as each and every one of you is aiming to improve on your quality and range of your voice, do not compromise the blending within the section.Different people need different adjustments to avoid sticking out, so always work on that.

i just watched channel 8 news coverage on the china earthquake
although it was short, it touched my heart

it has been 156 hours or so since the earthquake occurred and the rescue team did not give up at all, even though 80 hours was the probable limit to all survivors in the rubble

but guess what, the rescue team found another 63 people
these 63 people were left helpless without food, without water, for more than 4 days.
one of them is a 95 year old woman
and one of them is a 5 year old child. what's even greater is that one of the workers who rescued that child is the father, and the news showed how elated the father was.

there was another case, where the boyfriend stayed beside her for 2 days and 2 nights after she was rescued, and the boyfriend was seen half naked because he took off his shirt to cover her. while the girl laid down with bandage over her eyes, the boyfriend just asked her, whether she would prefer a western style wedding or a chinese one.
i think thats the sweetest thing one would want to receive.

screw media propaganda now. what i saw in the news was real.
those good things that i saw in the news, did not tell me how light-hearted the situation in China has become. it just tells me how precious it is for a small good thing to happen in this disastrous and saddening situation, that even if there's only a tinge of joy found, its a rejoiceful occasion for them.

and more earthquakes happened in China.

i think all these are worth pondering emotionally.
